Good afternoon all,
First, I would like to express my thanks for the support of all of you. We are barely in to the summer, and it has already been a busy season of CAP activities. So far, we've had a successful fund-raiser; the Millville Air Show, and; the Memorial Day Parade in Haddonfield Borough. Schweiker Squadron has been well-represented and very active, and our Cadets could not have been a part of these activities without your support. Thank you.
As you can see from my message yesterday previewing all of the events and activities this summer, it's only going to get busier. Keeping track of and directly coordinating these activities along with my other responsibilities in leading the squadron (not to mention that pesky "paid employment" that seems to detract from my CAP time!) is creating the danger of dropping the ball and taking away from the outstanding experience that the cadets -- in fact, all the members -- deserve. I am very pleased to announce that Renee Langstaff (Cadet Domenic Vacanti's mother) has volunteered to be the Cadet Parent Coordinator for Jack Schweiker Composite Squadron.
In this role, Renee will be my primary representative to all of you. This does not by an means make her an expert on CAP and the Cadet Program -- I realize that many of you will continue to have questions about promotions and progression, CAP training, activities outside of the squadron like Encampment and National Cadet Special Activities (NCSAs). The deputy commander, Paul Jennings and I will still be completely available to you. Renee's role will be to coordinate squadron level activities (parades, fund-raisers, activities, etc.) and to assist the squadron leadership in keeping you informed.
I have already implemented one of her suggestions -- I have created a Twitter account for the squadron (@CAPNJ059). This account will not be used for frivolous or frequent Tweets, it will be used to keep you informed in realtime of the status of cadet activities. I strongly encourage you to follow this account on Twitter for up to the minute information about what's going on.
Renee will also work with us to make the squadron web sites more useful and informational for all of us, and she has access to DragonNET for the broadest possible sources of information. You can reach Renee at the following e-mail addresses:
Finally, our next parents meeting will be held on 11 July 2011 at 7:30pm. We will hold the meeting at the Armory during the regular squadron meeting. It will be an informative session and give you the opportunity to continue to learn about your child's opportunities and experience as a CAP Cadet, please do your best to have at least one parent attend.
Again, my deepest thanks to each and every one of you. Civil Air Patrol is an outstanding experience that gives young people a real head start on leadership and functional life skills that help them develop in to outstanding American citizens, and future leaders in our communities, state and nation. They would not have this opportunity without your support.
Primus Inter Pares,
Lt Col Bob Jennings, CAP
Jack Schweiker Composite Squadron
